Jack Russell Terrier

Jack Russell Terrier

Named after Reverend John “Jack” Russell, a cleric who lived during the 1800’s in Southwest England. He bred these terriers to hunt foxes, their color, size, and personality making them ideal hunters.  They have great sniffers and can follow a scent to locate and bark at their “prey,” be it a fox, a car, birds, bugs, cats, or invisible creatures in the soil.

Although, Jack Russell Terriers are physically small, they don’t realize that. They require running, jumping, walking, climbing, and digging.  It’s a really good idea to train your Jack Russell because of their “strong” personalities. Otherwise, you could turn around to seen your JR run to your neighbor’s yard and climbed into a tree to eat an owl. They can be bullies to other breeds, even if the other dog is larger, they will show aggression. Never call a Jack Russell, “Shrimp.” They will not take it well.
